And what have you done? .... Kind of an accusatory tone from John Lennon, huh? Feels like it's been a long, trying year - even more so than it usually does. Assassination attempts, a seemingly unending and doom-filled election cycle, war and humanitarian crises abroad. But what else happened this year? We invited the wonderful Rowan James into the world. Macy started down the road of a thrilling new epicurean business adventure. Little Andrew led his team to a nail-biter of a triumphant victory in the Scholastic Bowl. I, for one, am choosing to focus on those exciting parts of this year, with gratitude and gumdrops full of good cheer.
I mean just look at the King and Queen of Christmas with their first born, circa 1983. How could you look at those beautiful people and not be merry?? And it is with that merriment that I say we ring in the Christmas Season with another year of the Najarian Family Christmas Blog. And this year, I have a few gentle (and only somewhat morally superior) recommendations for you all to consider for the annual familial gift giving.
- Second Hand: Second hand gifts have so much love, history and don't feed into overconsumption and capitalistic bullshit. Estate Sales, Thrift Stores, Vintage!! We love the stuff!
- Homemade: Is there any better way to show someone you love them than with something made by hand? Just take one peek at the quilts Margaret made for Rowan, Willow and Sam, and you'll see what I mean
- Economical: As you might be aware, some Najarians have an illness where they spend an exorbitant amount of money on excessively extravagant gifts. While that is always a splendid affair, might I suggest some restraint on the wallet this Christmas. Maybe, JUST MAYBE, even consider keeping yourself to a $50 spending cap. Could be a fun lil Christmas Challenge!!
